The Department of the Attorney General reports to the Attorney General; Minister for Corrective Services.

Attorney General; Minister for Corrective Services
As one of the youngest members of the WA Parliament, Christian Porter entered into politics in February 2008.
Christian holds a Bachelor or Economics, a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Political Science and a Graduate Law Degree from the University of Western Australia.
He has also studied at the prestigious London School of Economics under a British Chevening Scholarship from the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Christian topped his class in a Masters Degree in Political Theory.
As the State's first law officer, Christian has experience in both the public and private practice of law.
His legal career began as a commercial litigator at the national law firm Clayton Utz. This work saw him involved in major pieces of litigation, as well as a number of civil trials and summary prosecutions on behalf of State Government offices, local government departments and Australian universities.
Christian also worked as a legal advisor to the Federal Justice Minister in 2001, before joining the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia in 2002, where he was promoted to the position of Senior State Prosecutor.
Prior to his election Christian was also a senior lecturer at the Law School at the University of Western Australia teaching in criminal law, evidence and forensic advocacy.
As the Attorney General and Minister for Corrective Services, Christian aims to develop sound public policy that will not only improve community safety but also meets community expectations.
