Policy & Aboriginal Services Directorate

The Policy & Aboriginal Services Directorate is responsible for strategic policy and legislation projects to support the Attorney General’s wide-ranging reform agenda and the provision of effective justice services in Western Australia.

The key functions of the directorate are:

  • facilitating the amendment of legislation and subsidiary legislation to reform criminal and civil law and procedure
  • developing policy initiatives to improve justice-related outcomes for all members of the community and, in particular, developing initiatives that improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal people
  • providing policy advice to the Director General and the Attorney General to assist them in their role
  • undertaking reviews and evaluation research to recommend improvements to and future directions for policy, legislation and services
  • conducting research and statistical analysis of current justice issues and trends.
