The Attorney General, Hon Michael Mischin, and the Minister for Finance, Hon Bill Marmion, officially opened the new premises for the State Administrative Tribunal on
10 July 2015. The Tribunal commenced operations in the new building on 20 July 2015.
The $25 million State Administrative Tribunal Building was the first building to open in the revitalised Cathedral and Treasury precinct. The building is designed to accommodate the Tribunal for the next 25 years and beyond.
The new building has registry and administration areas, 22 hearing rooms, many mediation and a large conference room. The latest audio visual technology adds to the versatility, flexibility and efficiency of Tribunal operations.
Open, accessible and easy to navigate spaces are a design hallmark and sustainable materials and finishes, including wall linings and joinery made from Australian Blackbutt timber, has been used throughout.
The Tribunal is an independent body which makes and reviews a wide range of administrative decisions in the areas of guardianship, human rights, vocational regulation, town planning, resource development and commercial and civil disputes. The issues affect the everyday lives of Western Australia and for the majority, it will be their first and most important contact with our justice system.
